How Do We Help?
First of all, my class spearheads the paper recycling collection and informal education for the school. This is a routine that often spills into the home-life of many kids. Along with paper recycling, my class projects are often supplied with scrap paper––reusing.

My 2006-07 class built eight bird nesting boxes and installed them around the school. So far, we’ve had major success with birds using the boxes. Check out the photo album. We also appeared in the National Audubon Society’s news letter. We’re on page eight. Check it out Here.

Trash! We really don’t like it. The “environment sweep” is another little project we do once a week. It’s easy. We stroll the school grounds and pick up trash. It’s amazing how many kids don’t realize how much trash in on the ground until they pick it up. It’s an eye-opener.

There is a lack of environmental education in schools now-a-days.   I think educators need to take a few more steps forward with E-Ed. Picking up trash around a school or park is awesome. (I do it all the time) but, finding out what is there, why it’s there, and how we can avoid it in the future is really what I’m talking about.  Hey, we all want a clean environment, don’t we?  I’m trying to help.  What are you doing?
